"I think the only way to have real evidence for any drug is to start with a randomized controlled trial," he says. "That's the only way to have a real impact on the risk-benefit balance.

"It is essential that the FDA make drugs available for those who really need them," says Ettel.
Dr Fudenberg echoes that sentiment.
