Sposarsi ad Assisi: le Chiese

Assisi rapprensenta uno dei centri principali della Cristianità. Molte sono le Chiese nei luoghi dove vissero Santa Chiara e San Francesco. Oggi vedremo la Cattedrale di San Rufino, la chiesa Santa Maria Maggiore e le chiese di San Pietro e San Damiano.

Cattedrale di San Rufino

La Cattedrale di San Rufino fu iniziata dal vescovo Chiarissimo nel 1134 ad opera dell’artista Giovanni da Gubbio. E’ caratterizzata dalla facciata esterna in stile romanico umbro-spoletino ed è riccamente scolpita con diversi motivi.
L’interno a tre navate è stato restrutturato ad opera di Galeazzo alessi nel 1571 e porta con se le influenze dello stile rinascimentale tipico del ‘500. riamngono comunque le volte navali a botte tipiche delle chiese Umbre.

Chiesa Santa Maria Maggiore

La chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore è una delle più antiche di Assisi. Esisteva già all’epoca di San Francesco e fino al 1035 fu il Duomo. La chiesa venne costruita sopra un antico tempio romano. La sua straordinaria bellezza è nella semplicità mista a un’importanza storico artistica senza pari: affreschi di ignoti pittori e la cripta paleocristiana conferiscono alla chiesa Santa Maria Maggiore una grandiosità autentica.

San Pietro

La chiesa di San Pietro risale al XIII secolo. Consacrata mel 1254 da Innocenzo IV, è all’esterno suddivisa sa pilastri e un cornicione in due ordini da tre campi rettangolari. All’interno troviamo le tre navate centrali con un corto transetto. La navata centrale è priva di finestre, la luce proviene dal rosone centrale. La cupola è realizzata a scalini concentrici.

Chiesa di San Damiano

La chiesa di San Damiano è posta in una zona periferica della città di Assisi. Internamente si presenta ad una navata unica. La piccola abside è decorata con affreschi rappresentanti San Damiano, San Rufino, la Madonna e Gesù. Di fianco la chiesa c’è la cappella di San Girolamo dove sono ospitati alcuni affreschi di Tiberio di Assisi. Capienza 230 persone
